April Newsletter

An artistic representation of the month "April," surrounded by pink flowers, evoking a springtime theme.

Director's Corner,

Happy Spring!

April is upon us and with that comes Easter, spring rains, flowers and the start of the baseball season.  I am looking forward to all of it.  How about you?

I want to thank each of the March is Reading Month readers that came in every Tuesday and read during our Story time program.   I appreciate each one of you taking the time out of your busy schedules to spend time with us.  The children and parents really enjoyed it.  Thank you again.

Did you know that “Readers are Leaders”?  There are several past Presidents of the United States that are or were huge readers!  President Obama is a perfect example who puts out a list of all his books that he has read each year.  President Bush’s wife and their daughter co-authored children’s books. To get you started, here are eight ways to become a great reader.

1.       Read every day.

2.       Read out loud with someone else.

3.       Read about things that you like.

4.       Take a book with you wherever you go.

5.       Read everything you can, like maps, menus, signs, and magazines.

6.       Talk about what you’ve read.

7.       Keep a log of what you’ve read.

8.       Be proud of your reading accomplishments.

Please join a book club at your school or library.  This is a great way to meet individuals and make friends along the way.  Your library has a book club each month.  Come in and check it out.  I really hope that you will take advantage of everything that your library has to offer.  We just added two Yoto’s to our collection for ages 7 – 13 to enjoy.  Come in and see what titles we have to offer.  The Yoto is a seven day checkout along with the Yoto card.  We look forward to showing it to you.

Our Winter Reading Program was a great success.  All total 429 books were read from ages 3 to 100.  Way to go Potterville and Benton Township!

What is on my nightstand?  I just finished Carley Fortune’s “Meet Me at Lake”.  It is a great beach read.  I am getting started a little early on the summer beach reads, wishful thinking on my part.  Next up – “Life:  A Love Story” by Elizabeth Berg.  I will keep you posted.

Get out and enjoy April!
