July Newsletter

The word "JULY" is written in the sand at the beach during sunset, with gentle waves in the background.

Director's Corner,

Happy 250 Year Birthday!  On July 4, 2026, the United States is officially celebrating its semiquincentennial – the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  This historic milestone honors two and a half centuries of the American experiment, marked by celebration and historical reflections.  Take a moment, reflect and have an all American hot dog with blueberry pie.  Whatever you do, have a fantastic day.

Our Summer Reading Program has started.  If you have not had the opportunity to get signed up yet, don’t worry, there is still lots of time.  Stop in and we can get you started.  We have lots of prizes that need to be awarded.  Our sponsors for this year are:  A la Mode Ice Cream and More, Country Mill, Culvers of Charlotte, Dairy Queen of Charlotte, Eaton Theatre, Edru Skate, Family, Farm and Home, Franks/BP, Funtyme Adventure Park, Joe’s Gizzard City, Nutrition Coop, Pizza Hut of Charlotte, Taco Bell, Yarn Garden and Zap Zone XL.  Thank you so much for your support of our Summer Reading Program.  The Potterville community and I really appreciate you kindness.

If you have not stopped in lately, come and take a look at our four new Computer Stations.  The early literacy wall will be installed later this month.  There are lots of things going on at your library, including our fabulous Paige is back until September. Stop in and say hi when you get the chance!

I quick thank you to everyone who supported the Friends of the Library at Gizzard Fest.  It was great to see so many people out enjoying all of the rides, food and crafts.  Another very successful Gizzard Fest weekend.

What is on my nightstand?  I am just finishing up “Caller Unknown” by  Gillian McAllister.  If you like a real thriller from the beginning to the end, this is the book for you.  I totally enjoyed it.  Next up, Paul Doiron’s “Storm Tide”.  Game warden Mike Bowditch investigates a series of killings during a life-changing year.  To protect his family, Mike must work to uncover who’s behind the killings and stop them before he becomes their next victim.

Have a safe and wonderful July.  Happy Reading!
